Fastpass+, Magic Bands and the MDE* app
*MDE is shorthand for My Disney Experience. MyDisneyExperience is an app available for IOS and Android devices. It is also a website, www.MyDisneyExperience.com, where guests can link their admission tickets, dining reservations, resort reservations and annual passes. This app/website coordinates all of your reservations throughout Walt Disney World, including hotel, restaurant and Fastpass+ reservations. If you are having difficulty with the MDE app and/or linking your magic bands, contact tech support at 407-939-7765.
Walt Disney World Magic Bands:
Magic Bands are the colorful RFID wrist bands provided free of charge to all guests staying in a Walt Disney World Resort. These bands act as a room key, park ticket, Fastpass+ ticket and if linked to a credit card, can be used for any purchases throughout Walt Disney World (if you are staying on property). Guests staying in a Walt Disney World resort (US residents only at this time) are notified via email to customize the magic band and the magic band will be mailed to them prior to their scheduled trip.
Magic Bands are also provided free of charge to those annual passholders who sign up for them on the MyDisneyExperience website. The bands are then mailed to the annual passholder.
Non-passholder guests who have a valid park ticket and are not staying in a Walt Disney World resort can purchase the Magic Bands, but they are not required in order for guests to access the Fastpass+ system or the DAS assistance pass.
Walt Disney World Fastpass+
Fastpass+ is a free ride reservation system available at each of the four Walt Disney World parks. It replaces the old paper Fastpass system. Guests can reserve up to three rides/attractions per day in one park using the My Disney Experience app or kiosks located throughout the parks.
Guests can reserve 1, 2 or 3 FP+ rides prior to their visit (guests were previously required to reserve 3). After the last reserved ride/attraction is used, guests can obtain now obtain an additional Fastpass+ reservation using their MDE app (or at a park kiosk) for any WDW park. Thereafter, you can continue to select additional Fastpass+ reservations from the MDE app or park kiosks after each is completed.
For example: Guest with a park hopper ticket reserves two FP+ attractions for Disney's Hollywood Studios 30 days from their visit. Guest rides both FP+ attractions at DHS. After completing them, guest can now make a FP+ reservation for an attraction at Animal Kingdom using the MDE app on their smart phone.
You can also change your Fastpass+ ride reservations if needed using the MDE app. Some parks limit which popular attractions can be selected together in a tiered allocation.

Additional Information about FP+:
Sometimes an attraction unexpectedly shuts down due to mechanical issues or weather. If you have a FP+ reservation for that attraction and the ride is shut down during your return time window, you will be notified via email that you can substitute other attractions for that FP+ reservation. You can also wait and see if that attraction begins to function again and use that FP+ reservation when the ride is back up.
Original FP+ reservation on the top left for Splash Mountain.
After the ride was closed, the FP+ choice was automatically changed as reflected on the top right.
For example: You have a 12:10 pm to 1:10 pm FP+ reservation for Splash Mountain. At 12:00 pm it is raining heavily along with thunder and lightning and Splash Mountain and all other outdoor attractions are closed. You will receive an email alert from Disney with the message pictured below. You decide to use your FP+ for Pirates of the Caribbean since it is an indoor attraction and the rain will most likely continue throughout the rest of the day. Just go to the Pirates FP+ entrance and scan your Magic Band or park ticket and you can enter the ride.
